HISTORY & PORTRAITS
The Negresco first opened its doors on January 8th, 1913.
The hotel, designed by Henri Negrescu, immediately attracted a brilliant international clientele, Kings of the old and the new world : the Vanderbilts, Portugal’s Queen Amélie, the Grand Dukes Vladimir and Dimitri.
Since then, numerous people have signed the guest book: the artist Dali, Princess Grace of Monaco, the Beatles, Louis Armstrong, Elton John, many celebrities have enjoyed a stay on the French Riviera to live a little of the "Negresco myth".
Jeanne Augier is the guardian of this myth. Owner of the Palace since 1957, this great lady - with deeply-rooted convictions - has devoted her life to the preservation and the development of this unique heritage.
STAGING THE ART
Negresco owes its strong identity partly to a large art collection comprised of over 6 000 references.
Jeanne Augier's passion for her establishment expresses itself through one strong idea: presenting her guests the great hours of French art.
That way you can admire the generous forms of Niki de Saint Phalle's Nana Jaune in the Royal Lounge or the series of seven brightly colored rugs designed by Raymond Moretti.
Floor carpets were made from an original work by Yvaral in 1974. The rooms display an impressive collection of works by great artists from every period.
The Versailles Lounge hosts Louis XIV's portrait, identical to that exhibited at the Louvre or Versailles.
This canvas by Hyacinthe Rigaud is one of the most beautiful pieces on show.

This suite is a faithful reminder of the decoration of Versailles at the time of the Great Queen of France, Marie-Antoinette. Its extremely refined boudoir-style reminds us that the 17th century was one of pleasure and luxury.
Decorated with fancy period furniture, a Louis XVI bed and masterpiece paintings, this large suite with a terrace looking out onto the sea is one of those that has created the grand history of the Negresco.
With the hotel's Family Suite everything is planned to make family life go even smoother. Like an apartment, you have two large rooms, two bathrooms,
A large dressing room, and a sitting room to take advantage of the peace and calm.
A majestic junior suite which has it all: the comfort of a recent renovation, an impression of space and a very romantic view of the Massena garden against a backdrop of the blue sea. The beige tones with their velvet and silk patterns provide it with comfort and personality.
The period furniture and the noble portraits which decorate the walls have inspired its name, “Medici”, an elegant reminder of a golden era in the history of France.
The Pompadour Suite is a tribute to King Louis XV’s favorite through an inlaid precious wood dresser and a period “basket” double bed finely sculpted with gilded leaves.
With their separate sitting room, the Sea View Suites have the charm of small private flats. Decorated with elegant silk wall coverings and period furniture.
Exceptionally located facing due south opposite the sea, they inspire both luxury and the “Dolce Vita”.
The “Deluxe” benefit of the Junior Suites, is the extra space. With a bright sitting room and rare furniture, each suite has its own personality and character. They are endowed with the most recent comfort equipment.
Their double or triple large windows or balcony look onto one of the best views of Nice: the Bay of Angels.
With its golden yellow decoration, this Empire style suite evokes Emperor Napoleon I.
The suite looks out onto the beautiful Massena park, whose name evokes the famous Marshal of the Empire, loyal to the Emperor.
Mahogany furniture, gilded bronzes, red velvet - it is an elegant suite in a very French style.
The walls are covered with a bee pattern specially ordered for the Hotel.

The Imperial Suite Empire style decoration was inspired by Empress Josephine’s rooms at la Malmaison.
One of the most beautiful suites in the hotel with its exceptional view and its 1930s-style decoration. Its art deco furniture make it a comfortable room and its large stylised butterfly reminds us that the early part of the 20th century were a period of extravagance.

The “Deluxe” rooms are the perfect example of “Palace” rooms.

The “Exclusive” rooms look out on the gardens of the Palais Masséna and its century-old palm trees with the sea and the Baie des Anges in the background.
For its new room concept, The Negresco has called on the expertise of Studio Marc Hertrich & Nicolas Adnet as well as the participation of four other “Living Heritage Companies”: Horus, M.E. Dupont, Rémy Garnier and Objet insolite.
Located in a recently renovated wing, the seven Rivoli rooms look out onto the park of the Palais Massena, providing very beautiful views of the green gardens.
Inside, can be discovered first of all very coloured ambiances creating a surprise effect. They have been designed with two-toned palettes around three colour alliances.
Hues of reds and golden yellows, a palette of emerald greens and golden yellows, bright yellows interspersed with royal blues.
The furniture which is classical, Dadaist or Louis XVI inspired, has been stylised and designed specifically for The Negresco, and is covered in fabric from the houses of Dedar, Rubelli and Lelievre.
The bathrooms are laid out with this classic and contemporary “very Negresco “decoration: vivid stripes on the walls, marble, modernised bronzes in chrome version.

10 years during which Jean Denis Rieubland, Executive Chef of the Negresco, has played on subtle harmonies, those of the almost sensual savours of the south.
As a worthy successor to Auguste Escoffier, himself also a local boy, he has raised the Chantecler to be among the best restaurants.
