Like visits, encounters and discoveries, the hotel forms part of the journey. Once arrived at, it becomes a ‘home’ where the traveller’s time takes on a new dimension.
That is how Thomas Vidalenc, the architect who ‘reinvented’ Hotel De Sers, explained his approach.
Today, this Paris luxury hotel splendidly combines classic French style with modernity.
HISTORY
The Marquis de Sers entrusted his project to the architect Jules Pellechet, who designed a four-storey building with a classic facade, dotted with numerous windows.
Inside, the spaces were laid out very functionally: an entrance for horse-drawn carriages leading directly to the monumental staircase, an internal courtyard leading to the stables and a ground floor reserved for the service rooms.
The first floor was divided into an ante-chamber, salon and dining room while the upper floors were reserved for the bedrooms and servants’ quarters.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Hotel De Sers became a healthcare establishment. In thirties architectural style, the building was raised to four floors, and a six-storey building was added in the courtyard, with the internal spaces redesigned to equip each room with a toilet.
After this refit, in 1935 Hotel De Sers became a traveller’s hotel. Ever since, it has been welcoming travellers from around the world.
Refurbished and restored, it has now resumed it original vocation: that of a discreetly luxurious ‘home’, comfortable and warm, in a capital city of timeless beauty.
