LUANG PRABANG
Luang Prabang, Laos’ former royal capital, blends ancient Lao and French colonial architectural styles amid extraordinary natural beauty. Just south of Mount Phousi, Amantaka offers scenic views of the UNESCO World Heritage tow.
DESIGN
Set on a large garden estate, Amantaka is housed in graceful French colonial buildings surrounded by shady verandas. High-ceilinged suites encircle a large grassed courtyard, each with a private outdoor area fringed by mango trees.
Surrounded by gardens on an historic garden estate in Laos, Amantaka’s serene luxury accommodation draws on Luang Prabang’s ancient Buddhist heritage to offer peaceful sanctuaries close to nature.
Entered via a courtyard through louvered doors, Suites have high wooden ceilings, large windows and four-poster king-size beds.
Surrounded by large verandas, each Amantaka Pool Suite offers a spacious living room, library and study,
as well as outdoor areas including a garden, a private relaxation sala and a large pool.
Overlooking gardens, the central courtyard or a private outdoor area, each Khan Pool Suite
has its own private pool, an outdoor lounging area and a spacious living room.
The four Pool Suites are spacious and contemporary with high ceilings and cool colour palettes.
Each Pool Suite offers a private swimming pool located just beyond the living area.
Using time-honoured ingredients and techniques, Amantaka’s menu showcases small dishes of Laotian food that are served together to make up a traditional Lao meal.
Meals are enjoyed in the airy Dining Room or at the Pool Terrace – or shared at a Lao barbecue, complete with Niths dancing troupe in traditional costumes.
Try the delectable varieties of laos traditional food including mok, meat or vegetables steamed in banana leaf with coriander egg and coconut milk, or find the right
balance of ingredients in your foe, a rice noodle breakfast soup. Led by local produce, laos cuisine can be customised to suit the tastes of all amantaka guests.
House specialities, the makkam and the laojito are laotain aperitifs of choice at the lounge bar. Tamarind juice, vodka, lime ginger
and lemongrass flavour the makkam, while the laojito is a cooling mojito enriched with local favourites basil and lemongrass.
Visit the morning market with amantaka’s chef to learn about local produce and pick out choice ingredients. Morning and evening cooking
classes take place on the resort’s organic farm, where the chef reveals the culinary secrets of local laos cuisine specialities.
A place of quiet contemplation, Amantaka’s spa offers treatments ranging from massages and facials to scrubs and wraps, incorporating Southeast Asian techniques with Aman Spa’s own range of organic products.
As well as four spa suites, a steam room, sauna and hot and cold plunge pools provide all the necessary space for unwinding and rejuvenating body and soul.
Performed over loose, comfortable clothing, a series of gentle stretches opens the body to enhance mobility while deep pressure-point stimulation eases tension.
Amantaka’s signature massage works holistically to penetrate deep into the body through multiple senses to soothe and revitalise.
In Amantaka’s signature Baci treatment, the ritual is followed by a cleansing exfoliation and a soothing body massage.
Crisscrossed daily by some 1,200 saffron-robed Buddhist monks as they make their way between the dozens of temples, Luang Prabang lives at its own speed, pervaded by an air of peace.
Get the most from your Laos itinerary, whether it is a morning blessing, a tranquil stroll through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Old Town,
a mekong river cruise or even a visit to the Pak Ou caves, there is always something new to experience here.
Outside the city, both protected natural sites and Laos’s rich culture offer insight and discovery.
Witness the daily Tak Bat each morning as monks and novices walk the streets at sunrise accepting alms, or create a floral offering for the temple.
As the sun sets over forested mountains, enjoy cocktails and canapés while witnessing the city’s evening rituals. The Aman boat is also available for morning Mekong river cruises.
Journey through the countryside to the village, where your private guide will introduce you to the village chief and his family.
Marking the end of the monks’ three-month fast, join the dawn alms gathering and later witness the fireboat procession on the river in Aman’s own boat.
Set north of Luang Prabang on the Mekong, near the mouth of the Ou River, the lower and upper Pak Ou caves look out to the water and lush rainforest beyond.
