Every year, local Rapa Nui families choose a Catholic holiday to host a large meal for the entire community to give thanks to God and Jesus for all they have.
During each holiday, one Rapa Nui family prepares all day to receive around 2000 people. Locals and tourists are invited to partake in the “curanto,” a barbeque feast in which they give thanks and show the tremendous hospitality of the island.
Sweet potato, manioc, tuna, beef, mahi mahi and poe are buried in pits to cook with hot volcanic rocks and then covered with banana leaves for many hours.
Enjoy local food in a rustic setting at Motu Umanga, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Guests can choose from an assortment of vegetables grown on-site in organic garden, and hotel's team always has a fresh catch plucked from the pristine waters off Easter Island.
Come in for dinner and enjoy breathtaking sunset views from wraparound windows or outdoor patio.
