From hotel's kitchens to hotel's cellars, with their 20,000 bottles of wine, from the Concierges in the lobby to the Concierges on the mountains, and from family adventure to après ski, this hotel is, guests have said, "the Aspen of Aspen."
The city of Aspen at hotel's front door, Aspen Mountain at hotel's back door. And in between, a gathering place for the free-spirited.
Hotel's team is proud of the 5 Stars and 5 Diamonds - hospitality is hotel's passion.
HISTORY
The lot on which The Little Nell sits today has had quite a history over the past several hundred years.
Summer hunting ground of the Ute Indians. Miners’ retreat. Railroad stop and depot. Grazing pasture for the Aspen Dairy. Ski lift. Skiers’ watering hole.
In 1989, history was made again as Aspen’s only Five-Star, Five-Diamond hotel rose to prominence on the site.
Named after a mining claim originally located not far uphill from where the hotel sits today, it wasn’t long before the hotel began attracting a diverse international clientele, including celebrities, dignitaries, Fortune 500 magnates and political leaders.
In celebration of its 20th anniversary, The Little Nell underwent a major renovation of its guest rooms and suites at the hands of renowned interior designer, Holly Hunt.
All hotel accommodations feature a unique floor plan and gas log fireplaces, and most have private balconies. Room with a view? All accommodations overlook Aspen Mountain, the Red Mountain range or Continental Divide, Durant and Spring streets, or the courtyard and pool.
Chicago designer and Aspen resident Holly Hunt styled hotel's 52 guest rooms, 26 premium guest rooms, 8 suites and 6 signature suites. Contemporary works of art offset her “Aspen Modern” plush, textured fabrics and palettes of cream, blue and chocolate.

This is the premier hotel suite in Aspen, and the hotel’s biggest. Walter Paepcke, visionary industrialist, imagined a center of mind, body, and spirit high in the Colorado Rockies. It was he and his wife Elizabeth who founded the Aspen Institute, Aspen Skiing Company and the Aspen Music Festival and School.
If anything embodies that ideal, it is this grand 2,500 square foot one-bedroom space. A sweeping private balcony takes in the base of Aspen Mountain, the Silver Queen Gondola, and Ajax Tavern’s “see and be” scene. And the suite can be expanded to include two more bedrooms.
A central fireplace anchors an expansive living room which includes an elegant work station, a dining table seating six, and an adjacent powder room. And then there’s the art and design.
To begin to paint the picture: from the Plein Air Series, two pieces by John Riepenhoff. Ajiro Vineyard wall covering by Maya Romanoff. Frank Game Table by Mattaliano – a custom-designed game table with crystal chess and backgammon pieces. Mark Albrecht bar stools. Mystere Coffee Table by Tristan Auer. Gem Table by Chai Ming Studios.
The Little Nell provides two-bedroom residences in Aspen with approximately 2,000 square feet of dramatic mountain-inspired elegance. Put your feet up in your comfortable living room boasting custom furnishings and fine art, and surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows.

Friedl Pfeifer was Austrian ski racer who trained in these mountains with the 10th Mountain Division before WWII. He established the Aspen Ski School. A statue in Gondola Plaza commemorates his life’s adventure. In his spirit, two slopeside balconies on either side of the suite survey the Little Nell ski run. Inside, 2,000 square feet of tranquil space with lavish details.
Organic woods, natural stones and metal finishes mesh with rich, luxury fabrics and custom-made furniture to create a warm and sophisticated home ambience. The living area includes a full-service wet bar and dining table for six.
It has hardwood floors, lush area rugs, veneer wood wallpaper, and down-filled sofas and lounge chairs – the coffee table was custom-designed from a reclaimed black walnut tree. The artwork comes from the hotel’s private collection.
The two-bedroom suite – a master with breathtaking views and fireplace, and a second with twin beds – can be enlarged to three or four bedrooms each with their own entrance. Two-and-a-half baths make this space perfect for families.
The Little Nell is hotel's signature suite. It’s named after a silver mine in the first days of Aspen, which itself was named for a certain lady of the night who had stolen the miner’s heart. It has wall-to-wall windows, and two wrap-around balconies with fabulous views of Aspen Mountain.
Inside, there is curated art throughout the 1450 square foot space – notably an acrylic-on-canvas by Scott Reeder, a custom bookcase with hand-picked pieces from all over the world, and an installation by Little Nell owner and artist Paula Crown.
Here you can live and entertain in style. The one-bedroom suite connects to adjacent rooms and can be configured for two or three bedrooms. There’s a fully equipped work space.
And the expansive open living area includes a sunlit dining space with a table for six, a wet bar with seating for entertaining, and a powder room.
Little Nell would be proud. And frankly, speechless.
Fritz Benedict studied architecture under Frank Lloyd Wright. Settling here, he designed over 200 buildings in the Aspen area, establishing Aspen’s style of modern architecture. This 1,250 square foot, one bedroom space in his name is a nod to that aesthetic. Open space embracing the environment outside, yet highly personalized within.
Here, there’s custom artwork by Walter Niedermayr and John Riepenhoff. A Chamont Chandelier by Jonathan Browning. Ajiro Diamond wall covering by Maya Romanoff. Mark Albrecht counter stools. And, as they are fond of saying, much, much more. This is pure comfort by design.
Fred Iselin was a Swiss Army officer, an accomplished ski racer, and author. He became a Ski School Director at The Ski & Snowboard Schools of Aspen/Snowmass.
This one bedroom, 1,250 square foot suite celebrates his embrace of the Aspen Idea.
Here’s to the mind, body, and spirit.
There are original works of art on the walls by Walter Niedermayr and Charles Andresen, and custom design pieces throughout the space: Custom Console Table, Custom Villa Sectional, and Gazelle Cocktail Table from the Holly Hunt Collection. And pieces by Ajiro Diamond, Mark Albrecht, Jonathan Browning, and Chai Ming Studios among others.
André Roch was a Swiss mountaineer and skiing champion who planned and surveyed Aspen Mountain. In a way, he was the man who mined the Ajax gemstone.
And this 1,250 square foot, one bedroom space is also a gemstone in its own way. Simple, authentic elegance – and many shining facets.
Among them: A Landes Console in the foyer, and a Monaco Dining Table in the living area, by Jean Michel Wilmotte. Lounge Chair, by Markus Jehs & Jurgen Laub. Avedon Floor Lamp. Ajiro Coffers – gunmetal wall covering by Maya Romanoff.
And custom artwork by Charles Andresen - Ouray In Aspen, and U Mass. This is mountaineering in high style.
Room to breathe, stretch out and get very, very mellow. In fact, 1150 square feet of room, overlooking the gentle bustle of Aspen’s Gondola Plaza. With a king bed in the master bedroom and twin beds in the second one, two bedroom town side suites in Aspen are a home away from home for families.
You have a second, ADA accessible bathroom, too. Spread out in the living area, or gather at the dining table for four.
Aspen Mountain took about 70 million years to form. As a ski area, it’s been around for about 68. How long does it take to get from the plush king bed in the bedroom to the balcony in the living room to take in that spectacular mountain?
A few leisurely heartbeats. Averaging 800 square feet, these one bedroom mountain side suites in Aspen have quite the interior view too, each with its own curated works of original art.
Slip out of the plush king bed. Stroll into, or down to (two suites are split-level with vaulted A-Frame ceilings), the sunlight of the living room. Linger over the original art on the walls, relish the seclusion. Then look out of the window at the town below and the peaks beyond, and wake up to where you are.
These one bedroom town side suites in Aspen average 860 square feet and nearly all have balconies.
There, beyond the hotel’s cozy courtyard and heated pool. Past the Ski Concierges who turned you on to that powder stash in the Aspen glade. Right next to the third lift tower – Ski Patrol, picking up the cashmere scarf you dropped on the last run of the day.
In one of these luxury mountain side guest rooms, with or without a balcony, you have an orchestra seat for the Rocky Mountain show.
Snowflakes the size of feathers swirl in the glow of the streetlights along Durant and Spring in downtown Aspen. They blanket the cars, and chase the stragglers racing home to sleep before tomorrow’s skiing powder fest.
Actually, you never know what you’ll see from your town side guest room window or balcony, but Mother Nature always delivers – winter wonderland, autumn fire, or blue summer skies. Whatever the season, the forecast is always luxury.
Runs you’ve conquered. Runs you hope to conquer. Runs you’ll let others conquer while you sip a cocktail. From your mountain-facing guest room balcony, the hotel’s cozy courtyard and heated pool are in view, and in some cases, Aspen Mountain too.
Averaging 600 square feet, these mountain side rooms are at the very heart of the Aspen experience. An experience people talk about on the other side of the world.
A tycoon on her way to shred Perry’s Prowl. A jazz musician hauling his bass. People-watching is the cherry on the Aspen cake, and Durant and Spring streets can be a delicious treat. If you can’t get enough, ask for a town side guest room with a balcony.
Prefer peace? Averaging 600 square feet, these modern town side guest room spaces are all earth tones and quiet detail.
At The Little Nell, hotel's team goal is to nourish each moment of your stay, and never more so than with food and beverages.
Settle into a chair at one of hotel's two restaurants or four bars, and you will find that in little ways as well as big, the menus are put together to surprise and delight.
Three different syrup choices for your morning waffle? Truffle fries on a patio twenty steps from the gondola? Wagyu beef served five ways? Ski-in, ski-out champagne bar up on the mountain?
Yes, yes, yes, and as you may soon find yourself saying, yes.
Say “apres-ski” and most people picture something strikingly similar to Ajax Tavern – glamorous yet easy. Its sun-drenched, mountainside patio can be seen from halfway up the mountain – a simple target for lunch or cocktails.
Arrive, and let the people-watching begin, there’s no better seat in town. Located right next to the Silver Queen Gondola, Ajax Tavern is the hub for Aspen casual fine dining in an unbeatable atmosphere.
The Tavern comes to life at lunch, and the party rolls on well into the night. If you go no further on the menu, try the truffle fries and Ajax double cheeseburger – they earned their reputation.

Recognized as one of the best après-ski lounges in the country, Chair 9 at The Nell is open during ski season (late November through early April). Named Chair 9 because Aspen Mountain has eight chairlifts and this serves as the 9th hole, so to speak.
The bar opens just as the lifts are closing, featuring DJs daily from 15.30h - 19.30h, and football on big game days. Find your place at the bar, one of the high top tables or on the chaise-lounge.
Or, upgrade to VIP seating a.k.a. "private chairs" offering bottle service and room for up to eight guests.
A local's favorite, Chair 9 has also been recognized nationally by the New York Times, Curbed Ski and won awards from the Apres Ski Cocktail Classic and Apres Awards.
