On the timeless Village Green of Ilmington, nestled beneath the Cotswold Escarpment, lies The Howard Arms, a stunning, 400-year-old Cotswold-stone inn.
The pub and dining room have been refurbished to combine an appealing mix of old furniture, broad polished flagstones and a log fire that burns for most of the year.
It is an especially attractive and relaxed place to drink and eat, with dogs welcome to join their owners in the bar area.
Particular attention was given to the lighting.
Local company Lightmasters came up with stunning and original designs, some of which even incorporate soundproofing.

There are also eight beautiful bedrooms, some new, some old, some very large.
Luxury, comfort and attention to detail are the focus of the bedrooms.
Each offers en-suite bathrooms, large beds with hand-stitched and sprung mattresses, attractive fabrics and a clever mix of antique and modern furnishings to ensure that every room offers its own individual personality.
The Howard Arms is sited away from main roads or street lights so a good night’s sleep will leave you revitalised and refreshed, ready to enjoy the wholesome three-course breakfast.
As well as a place to eat and drink, the Howard Arms also has 8 rooms; all luxury, all different, all full of comfort and character.
There are many places to stay but you’ll be pushed to find a more spoiling Cotswolds bed & breakfast.

warmth of the fire; in the intimate Snug or under the summer sky in the Garden.

Popular with walkers and ramblers, Ilmington is the perfect starting point.
In the centre of the village, St Mary the Virgin bell tower and church contains Thomson of Kilburn pews (remember to look for the carved mice), and an organ, if you play, worthy of Notre Dame in Paris.
Also a Village Community shop and a tiny dairy in the same street as the church straight out of the Archers before the Archers started mimicking East Enders.
Horse riding, fishing, cycling, quad biking and shooting are also available in the local area.
Vanbrugh pile in stupendous park, given by grateful nation to the Dukes of Marlborough: birthplace of Winston Churchill. Equally famous for providing The Howard Arms with its bottled water.
Charlecote Park is a superb Tudor House with a landscape deer park gardens by the River Avon.
Compton Verney - unusual mix of art shows in 18th-century mansion set within 120 acres of Capability Brown parkland.
