In the same family for over 200 years, the estate has its heart at the monte, an ancient small farming village, which has been brought carefully back to life as a remarkable hotel of understated luxury, surrounded by ancient holm oaks, olive groves and vineyards.
Here, the feeling of being at home is intimately connected with the sense of belonging to the vastness of the land. In Alentejo, farm and landscape soon become your home. José António Uva is the eighth generation of the same family to have lived at São Lourenço do Barrocal, and is the lead developer on the estate.
Enjoy all the comfort of a spacious living room, with sofas craving you to take a seat and look at the Monsaraz castle crowning the nearby hill. Have exclusive access to the ‘barrocais’ landscape, opening the doors wide and letting the breeze in; immerse gently into a deep short sleep like it is so traditional in Alentejo.
Within walking distance, you will find the farm shop. In it you can buy salty and sweet delicacies, artisanal bread baked in a wood-fired oven, wine, teas and liqueurs; enjoy an intimate gathering between yourself and some of the region’s flavours at the suite’s dining table.
With gentle steps, enter this space celebrating authenticity and the crafts of the surrounding villages; look at the floor and appreciate the handmade work involved in each of its terracotta bricks (here stored in times gone by); then, open the window to welcome the countryside: from your terrace enjoy one of the most beautiful courtyards of the estate.
Tranquil living space will give you chance to wind-down. Take a seat in the armchair and open a book; or extend your gaze from the smooth surface of the reflecting pool’s water to the landscape ahead; notice that minutes here last longer.

The morning light will invite you to go outside, stepping into your very own private terrace. Back inside, simplicity and handmade quality of every detail will whisper you memories of another pace and time. Giving direct access to the exterior, most of these rooms have their entrance in the main street of the ‘monte’.
They used to be the homes of the farm workers and their families, maintaining even today their independent character, bearing, instead of the old front door numbers, the numbers necessary to identify the hotel rooms.

And, by the reflecting pool or in the comfort of your sofa, make a toast to life.
