San Maurizio opens its doors to the world after four centuries of history and stories, and in ten years it becomes the reference point for refined hospitality, centre of culinary experimentation and guardian, at the same time, of ancient traditions.
Relais San Maurizio lies in a unique and enchanting place, the ancient XVII century monastery, where people and nature have always lived together in peace and harmony.
A window on nature, the woods, the waterways, the top of the hills windswept by the Mediterranean.
Here the countryside is gentle, drawn from the most precious vineyards of Italy, cradles of the great wines famous throughout the world and kept in the historic cellars.
And then the old roads, already traversed in the Middle Ages, the hilltop villages, the castles, the eno-gastronomic tradition, the sinuous horizons.
These are the Langhe, UNESCO World Heritage; lands which breathe at a different rate during the changing seasons, destination for a getaway in the hills embraced by the Alps and the nearby Ligurian Sea.
The hotel's team will accompany you on a journey in search for the roots and origins, you’ll admire the slow flow of time and enjoy the experience that will caress your mind for a long time.
It all started with a dream: return new light to a unique heritage and tradition to give new life to a place passed by the centuries.
For this reason, the home is one of the few in the world to offer 36 rooms and suites, each one with different characteristics, largely drawn from the ancient cells of monks
and equipped to offer maximum comfort, mixing original details, classic lines and refined technology.
The uniqueness is a precious value as much so as the art of good living; San Maurizio has been for more than ten years an exclusive synthesis of the high-level hospitality values.

1 GUIDE MICHELIN STARS
In the fifties Guido and Lidia Alciati invented a new model of restaurant where, long before the phenomenon of slow food, genuine raw materials were proposed and personally searched for from local farmers.
The same tradition is continuing today at the Michelin star “Guido da Costigliole” restaurant, situated in the ancient cellars of the monastery, where the walls with the oringinal stone of Langa and the ceilings in original exposed bricks create an atmosphere of great warmth and charm.
In summer the Monterosa terrace, overlooking the kitchen and the Langhe hills to the Alps makes the flavours of the “buona tavola” more pleasurable when the dusk is fading in shades of warm sunset.
The hill on which Relais San Maurizio stands in in the heart of the Langhe in Piedmont, one of the areas in Italy most renowned for its food and wine, where the view takes in the breathtaking colours of the vines and the landsacpe descends towards the Mediterranean sea.
These are the lands that give origin to farm produce that traditional peasant and monastic skill has succeeded in transforming into foods that are unique in the world, making the most of them with recipes of unequalled taste and respect for the natural quality of the ingredients that have always been used.
These vineyard strewn slopes are also the birthplace of some of the world’s favourite wines, including Moscato, Barolo and Barbaresco, of which the Langa district has become emblematic and symbolic, and with which the hotel's team are filling your glasses today.
San Maurizio Bistrot has rediscovered the precious heritage of this age-old tradition and is now presenting it to the world, taking the excellence typical of the Langa to its finest level and, thanks to the microclimate that distingushes the hill where the monastery stands, offering its customers truffles all year round.
In fact, thanks to its very special history, San Maurizio has naturally become the best place for carrying out extremely refined research: the Cistercian monks that laid the foundation stones of its walls in the 17th century brought, walking from Provence across the Alps, the exclusive habit of cooking with herbs.
Their spices in the stores have merged with the local products, developed using traditional recipes, to give an authentic result dedicated to demanding and refined palates.
For every product, the hotel's team guarantees a complete knowledge of the food chain, from the places where the ingredients are cultivated and produced, to the processing and preservation methods.
Each of the foods is the result of excellent artisan production and this is why it is available in limited and exclusive qualities only and not available from mass distribution outlets.
With its ancient frescoed halls, its view of the monastery’s cloister and flower garden with view of the Langhe area, Truffle Bistrot is the ideal spot for a business lunch, a family event, a tranquil moment in a relaxing, scenic environment.
In summertime, you can dine outdoors in a unique setting, savoring local specialties, the light dishes made with local produce.

During his numerous trips to Italy, Ernest Hemingway came to know the Langhe area in 1948 when, upon arriving from America, he drove from Genoa to Stresa, stopping in the Asti area to sample the best vermouths of the area.
Together with gin, Bacardi and champagne, vermouth was one of Hemingway’s faithful ‘travel companions’ and, indeed, it was right here in Italy that he invented the Martini cocktail.
The author returned to Piedmont in May 1954, traveling from Milan to the French Riviera, stopping at the Café Arione in Cuneo where he savored their specialty — the Cuneesi pastries with Rum — purchasing two boxes.
Relais San Maurizio pays homage to the legendary writer with a choice of cocktails inspired by his life and works.
The Truffle Cafè Wine & Cocktail Bar has one of the most extensive menus of wine sold by the glass: more than 40 labels that include sparkling wines, whites and reds, the pride of the Langhe production.
Let Igor, the head barman, recommend something special for You; at the Truffle Cafè, surrounded by the bright Winter Garden, the hotel's team do serves a wide array of teas, served with different sorts of cakes prepared by the Chef Giovanni.
