HYSTORY
1940’s Land Sale: Addis White sells what is now Gallows Point land to Government of Virgin Islands.
1948 – Richard Duke Ellington buys 5 acres of the land.
1952 – Ellington hires Mr. Penn to build small cottage colony on land, called “Gallows Cottages”.
1978 – In waning health, Ellington sells Gallows Point to Dr. William Wood and Mr. Forrest Fisher.
1979 – After Hurricane David passes through the islands, the new owners begin building condos in place of the cottages.
1981 – Seven building consisting of four condos each are completed.
1984 – The Administration Building and “Ellington’s Restaurant” are completed. Gallows Point Resort is officially “born”.

Pilates & yoga classes are held on the lower seaside terrace Tuesdays and Thursdays in season.
Activities Coordinator, St. John Adventures in Gallows Point Gourmet welcomes the opportunity to arrange any or all of your St. John Island activities at no additional charge to you.
Car rental, water sports rentals, and other amenities such as en-suite spa treatments can be booked prior to your arrival or while you are on island.
St John has a special kind of a natural energy and that is most obvious on its beaches. Some like Trunk Bay are world famous beaches, appearing on TV, in magazines and postcards. Others are hidden, private utopias that take a bit of hiking or some adventure to get to.
Although there are plenty of beautiful beaches and things to do, St. John’s close proximity to St. Thomas and the British Virgin Islands gives you many opportunities to discover their beauty as well with “day trips.” Private charters and public ferries operate frequently.
St. John has a wonderful and diverse selection of shops and jewelry stores in Cruz Bay and a delightful handful of eclectic and islandy shops in Coral Bay. The serious shopper might want to consider a day trip to St Thomas, the largest duty free shopping port in the world.
The hotel is so close to town, it is not necessary to rent a vehicle for your entire stay, but hotel's team highly recommends exploring St. John in a rental car at least for a day or two.
Carnival draws on African and European customs including music, dancing and masqueradescan. It be found throughout the Caribbean and is celebrated on various islands. In the United States Virgin Islands Carnival events take place on St. Thomas in April/May.
The Virgin Islands National Park makes up just over half of St. John island. The North Shore beaches and hiking trails start just outside of Cruz Bay.
