Situated on one of the world’s most beautiful mountain passes, Clouds Wine and Guest Estate is a small boutique hotel on top of Helshoogte pass. This private estate is a working farm that produces its own wines.
It also offers premium accommodation that blends designer luxury with all the mod-cons.
A stylish destination surrounded by incredible views, a stay at Clouds Hotel & Villas is difficult to forget.
The estate came to pass because a Dutch couple holidayed in South Africa back in the year 2000, and fell in love with the wine, the food, the landscape and the historical connections with their homeland.
Great lovers of wine and good design, the couple dreamed of owning their own wine farm.
A dream that finally came true when they were able to purchase a modest estate with vineyards, accommodation and extraordinary views.
They then set about remodeling the old guesthouse into a contemporary hotel that cleverly opened up to the views.
They also landscaped the grounds, and brought in Dutch designer pieces and South African art for the interiors. And voila, Clouds was born.
DESIGN
The owners wanted their estate to celebrate the surrounding mountains and vineyards. To this end architect Christof Albertyn designed contemporary buildings featuring wood, glass and natural materials, that show the views to effect.
Interior designer Suzy Vissers used high-end, modern furnishings from Dutch companies Moooi and Linteloo to give the rooms a feeling of warmth and luxury.
The interiors are finished off with a collection of South African art. Clouds' combination of European décor and South African art has made the estate an acclaimed design destination. Outdoors, guests can laze in cocoon-like sunbeds on the pool deck and front lawn, which is set in a large, beautiful garden designed by landscaper Wendy Attwell.
Upon arrival at Clouds Hotel & Villas, you’ll be escorted to your beautiful semi-detached villa or luxury hotel room. A welcoming glass of Clouds wine will immediately acquaint you with South Africa's warm spirit.
The rooms and villas were designed to offer guests panoramic views of the landscape via floor-to-ceiling windows. All accommodation options feature designer furnishings, original South African art and top-of-the-range technology.
