Acquired in 1937, Carl Werner List originally farmed the 12.000 hectare estate, developing this private and intimate world into a household name in Namibia. Midgard Country Estate was born.
Today Midgard Country Estate invites guests to enjoy the tranquillity, while marveling at the pioneering German Settler spirit which gave birth to it all. “Midgard”, a word found in Old Norse, Middle English and High German languages, has varying meanings, but is popularly thought to mean “A paradise where the earth rises again, fertile and green, creating a protected world and a safe empire for the people”.
It’s an intimate world.
One which offers 46 newly decorated and fully equipped rooms, Carl’s Dining Room & Bar, two swimming pools, the Pool Bar & BBQ Terrace, gym and sauna, and a private skittle alley (Kegelbahn).
These are all spaciously situated in a sprawling country garden, bordering the banks of the Swakop River, as it meanders through the estate on its way to the Atlantic Ocean.
Family Rooms all feature a double bed or two twin beds as well as two separate single beds, either as bunk-beds or on a mezzanine floor in the room.
As with standard rooms, all are equipped with air conditioning, satellite television, wardrobe, writing desk and a hospitality tray.
Rooms are all tiled, furnished with warm colours and feature direct access to either the gardens or a balcony.
Each is room en-suite with shower and a single vanity.
Luxury Rooms comprise of a king size bed, a spacious lounge area as well as a writing desk. These rooms all lead out onto a large private Patio equipped with Patio Furniture.
All of Luxury rooms boast a luxurious en-suit bathroom complete with a bathtub, shower and vanity.
Standard Rooms are spacious and comprise of a double bed or two twin beds. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, satellite television, wardrobe, writing desk and a hospitality tray.

Offering country-style comfort, “home" cuisine with a Namibian touch, during breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dining at night includes a buffet or three course set menu, with three selections per course.
At lunch there is either an à la carte menu, or depending on occupancy, a special buffet. Meals are also served al fresco on terraces or under trees.
Open most weekends dependent on season, occupancy and weather. Serves drinks and snacks and items from the a la carte lunch menu.
Subject to occupancy it also offers a traditional Namibian Braai (BBQ).
The Midgard Bali Boma is a magnificent thatched roof pergola. Inspired by Balinese architecture and constructed using local thatch, the venue boasts a private bar, private his and hers bathrooms, a huge central barbeque with open fire and ample seating for up to 150 guests.
The Bali Boma is great for both large dinner banquets, as well as a more intimate wedding venue.
A “Boma”, is a round livestock enclosure, traditionally used to keep cattle safe at night.
You can workout in gym and relax in sauna.
There are two swimming pools on site.
Guests are free to soak up the ambience and enjoy doing absolutely nothing; or they can explore activities such as hiking, drive along 4x4 tracks, play volley ball, tennis, pool or outdoor chess and view vintage car collection.
One of the estate’s major attractions is a sundowner drive to Hilltop, where guests can enjoy a stunning 360° view over the Otjihavero Mountains and watch the sun set with sundowners in hand.
They can also experience what life was like on a traditional Namibian Farming and Game Estate in years gone by, with a morning or afternoon nature-game drive through the separate 2.000 hectare nature reserve, along the Swakop River.
Wildlife found here includes Giraffe, Blue and Black Wildebeest, Oryx, Kudu, Hartebeest, Eland, Warthog, Baboons and Smaller Antelope species such as the Steenbok. The riverfront is a birder’s dream.
MIDGARD TRAIN CARRIAGE
For school groups, church, scout or other groups of has been opened the historic Midgard Train Carriage.
Midgard Train Carriage is conveniently located within the Midgard Country Estate gardens and within a short walking distance of the main lodge where the hotel’s dining room, bar, lounge, TV Room, boma and various outdoor terraces, pools, etc. are located.
All activities incl. the 4x4 Experience of the main lodge are open to Train Carriage guests as well.
This unique facility is made up of three stationary historical Namibian 1969 passenger train carriages. Prior to their arrival at Midgard they were in use throughout Namibia.
These three carriages share two separate male and female ablution blocks featuring 4 showers/ 5 toilets/ 6 hand basins for female and 4 showers, 4 urinals, 4 toilets, 4 hand basins for males.
The facility also includes a building housing a large basic kitchen and separate dining room. In the courtyard area is a bar and open boma fire pit.
Within the complex there is a wood burning barbeque area and designated parking area with 10 covered parking bays.
Midgard Country Estate is the ideal venue for conferences, meetings, incentives, team buildings, family events and weddings. There are a variety of venues to choose from for groups ranging from 20-160 people, depending on the function and preferred seating style.
Midgard offers conference groups and weddings an array of unique venues such as Hilltop Open Air Braai/BBQ, Braai for exclusive use and the Open thatched roof Bali Boma for buffets as well as private banqueting rooms for buffet meals.

Located within Carl's Bar & Lounge there is a cosy TV lounge where guests socially enjoy major sporting events on a large TV screen. Next to Carl's Bar & Lounge there is also a Pool Table around which many pleasant moments have been enjoyed by guests.
